Laser skin resurfacing
Cosmetic skin resurfacing removes sun damaged skin, wrinkles, and
other facial blemishes. The process involves using a CO2 laser which removes the problem areas layer by layer. This process is most
commonly used to remove fine lines especially around the eyes and mouth, and to soften
the appearance of deep creases on the face (some of which are sometimes affectionately
known as smile lines.) Laser resurfacing is also effective in treating aras of uneven
pigmentation, pock marks, moles and facial scars. It may be performed on the whole
face or in a specific regions. The subsequent healing provides a smoother, tighter,
younger-looking skin surface, and a significant improvement in the quality of the
skin. |
How the Laser works
Laser resurfacing is performed using a beam of laser energy for a Carbon Dioxide
laser which vaporizes the upper layers of damaged skin at specific and controlled
levels of penetration. It is clear that laser resurfacing may offer a number of advantages
ove the other resurfacing methods: precision, little (if any) bleeding, little (if
any) bruising, and less post-operative discomfort. First, the outer layers of damaged
skin are removed. Then the activated laser beam is carefully passed over the underlying
skin causing the collagen fibers to contract. As the new cells form during the healing
process, the new skin has a smoother, tighter and more youthful appearance. |
